Artist Statement:
===============

There are few vipers in my life just waiting to strike.  I have built wall around me and they are not allowed in. I breathe in and I know I am safe, behind the walls and doors away from them.  I breathe in and I am not affraid as I have faith.  I breathe out and negative thoughts go away... They insist on coming in my sanctuary but I will never let them in, not near me, not near my kids, nowhere within my safe place... Patterns in actions... Predictable...

Wow, simply stunning work Sandra, slightly different from your usual work but those patterns are really effective, I love it! You and I both know that acrylic paint can be a pain to blend but you have done a magnificent job on those skin tones this has to be one of my favourites from your gallery. Remember keep those vipers out!

Thank you... I am playing a bit with patterns to see where they take me. Acrylic can be pain but at least for me its baby proof lol my kids wont get poisoned and it will get dry quickly. Keeping vipers at bay is hard... I had one strike they other day I ended up being mess for a while... Bloody snakes ...

This pose makes me think of washing away sins, guilt, pains & basking in the sunlight finally free from burdens that were weighing her down for a very long time.  This is how I am take it or leave it it seems to say, I will feel guilt no more.

Its not a guilt, its more I will not be afraid anymore, I will put faith in God and he will let me handle the vipers without getting bitten, he will heal me when I need it.

still taking time to absorb this, but one of the first things I notice is your feet.  Circles around your feet (your "walls"?), but yet i see bloody red hash marks there.

you really do get a sense of the walls -- both in the hash marks (almost like brick work), and the circles around you head (what you think0, middle (belly/gut/womb? what you feel) and your feet (where you go).

another repeated motif I see again and again in your paintings is the hair.  Blood red, and always blurred.  I know that for many women, a big part of their identity is in their hair and how it looks, so I'm thinking this is a very intentional theme.  just let me ponder it some more...  ;-)

Thank you... the patterns repeated at different strength are ripples... ripples of events past that still scar me... I want those vipers I have unfortunately in my life gone for good. They hold me down, tied down... I want to be free....

The past is what it is.  It shapes us for both good and evil, making us into the people we are now.  The ripples keep coming, but are the vipers the past, or are they our reactions to what the past means to us?  Like you said, you breathe in and know you are safe. You breathe out, and your faith burns the vipers (and the lies they grow out of) to ashes.

I'm just thinking of Moses as he was leading the children of Israel in the desert, and they were being attacked by vipers.  What did Moses lift up in the center of the camp to heal the people who had been bitten?

He made everyone who was bitten look up the bronze/fiery serpent.  What you said made me read few passages again that is numbers 21 an d Luke 10:18-20.  It gave me strength to face another day. We can face serpents devil himself as long as we have faith. All we need to do is look up at god, at divine, pray and we know the comfort, the healing, we are given the ability to move on, even when serpents keep biting, because we believe.  Thank you so much for this. :glomp: it helped me more than you will ever know.

Of course, the other reference to what that bronze serpent (and the restored life it brought) really stood for, take a look at John 3:14

Blessings to you Sandra.  Your conversations always make me smile.  :-)

Thank you... I am trying new things... I got inspired recently by patterns of things around me so trying to use them...  Being married to computer repairs person gives me access to so many broken bits with interesting patterns...

Those red circles in the background triggered a long forgotten memory of my childhood.  I must have been 5 or 6 yo.  I remember how I had used a champagne cork as a stamp, and I would stamp anything I could find pretending to be like an official who stamps things.  This was a completely forgotten event remembered only after seeing those red circles you placed in your painting.  It is true what they say about the subconscious, everything stays there.  Imagine how much information we must have stored away that we never use.  I wish my bank account was like that. LOL  How are you?  How's the skids? LOL
